This mini-unit was designed for my students with Autism and will work great with any student who has trouble with word recognition or reading comprehension in early elementary.
It is hard to find stories to fit students with special needs, so I have written my own to fit the most important ideas for our students. The story itself was created with BoardMaker © symbols, as well as symbols I created myself to fit the story and the needs of my students. In addition, the three lesson ideas to accompany the story were made to help students organize information visually to enhance their comprehension of the concepts “big” and “small”. (See specific content list below)
I hope you enjoy the story and the activities!
-Cover page and letter
-12 page modified story with symbols to read during the mini-unit
-2 cut and paste activities
-1 T-chart (Big, Small) to use with a magazine hunt. Students will show you what they know by finding their own big and small pictures. Can be modified for some students by having pre-cut or cut and paste pictures ready for them to use
