Investigate Fortune Teller Fish to determine if they go through a physical or a chemical change when they move to "tell your fortune."
Can you tell someone's fortune with a tiny plastic fish? What makes the fish move? Karen Ostlund and Sheryl Mercier have designed this series of activities using a "fortune telling" fish to take students through levels of scaffolded inquiry. Each lesson is less and less teacher directed and more student constructed until students design their own full independent investigation.
Also included is an open inquiry flip book for recording full inquiry investigations and scoring rubrics.
Scaffolded inquiry (Directed, Guided, Connected and Full) provide essential support to help students construct the skills and knowledge needed to conduct independent inquiry.
