Kick off every day with WarmUPs that have great links to fun songs/vidoes and review Density, Graphs, Variables, as well as Phys/Chem CHANGES!
The MultiMedia GraphiQ EXPLAIN Presentation can be done teacher or student-directed, and is linked to short videos on the topics to aid in student's understanding. It comes with three(3) Scaffolded, Leveled FRAMES, L0, L1, L2 for different learners. It addresses many Accommodations such as "Preteach Vocabulary" as do all my GraphiQ EXPLAINs. All activities, except one Practice Sheet and Quiz(with answer keys), are Hands-ON, Self-Directed ActionLABs or ActionACTivities! I believe in an active, fun classroom with authentic learning opportunities and relevant application activities. It begins with Key Questions and the students will explore and investigate until they discover and know the answers themselves. (with some pointed practice and skills in WarmUPs, Vocab practices, SORTs etc, along the way!!)
A very-STEAM Matter, DENSITY, & Physical vs Chemical CHANGES Choices BOARD allows students to practice and show their knowledge of Vocabulary terms and Physical vs Chemical CHANGES in Matter, their Properties, and Calculate and Graph Density. This is your cure for "I am finished" in your classroom! It really helps with Differentiation, as higher learners love completing more for extra credit, and others can be assigned less number of products, or less items IN A PRODUCT. I always have a Choice Board going for every 2-3 UNITs, as they seem to fit together.
Three(3) Fantastic Hands-ON, ActionLABs follow the Scientific Method, and explore Physical and Chemical Changes, including Oxidation, Production of a Precipitate, Bubbles, a HOT and a COLD reaction, and using CSI skills to determine substances identity by comparing them to known reactions. My great ACTivities include Pictures CARDs to SORT, and some CARDs to MATCH with their correct Evidence reason for Physical or Chemical CHANGE, such as "Change in COLOR" or "Production of a Precipitate",
My Large and Small Vocab MatchUP CARDs are fun for a Race to WIN! in TEAMS or for interactive Journal/Notebook Practice with a pocket template included. I included a new APPLY IT! Physical and Chemical Properties Activity so that students never are confused between these and the Evidence reasons again. Then there's a T-chart SORT with EVIDENCE CARDS to present which would be great for a small-group activity or a TEAM practice.
I have carefully written this UNIT for you and include my NO FAIL METHOD for identifying Physical vs Chemical CHANGES. If students choose one of the FOUR(4) EVIDENCE REASONS for Physical or Chemical CHANGES first, they will never miss. The reasons have easy acronyms as a way to remember. I created a GraphiQ MAP that puts all the concepts and vocabulary together visually and transforms into an Interactive Word WALL! I've included the larger printed word cards to copy and attach separately with sticky-tack..
