This is an inquiry lab which will help students experience the difference between a physical and chemical change. Included in this pack are 7 stations which students will rotate through to explore physical and chemical changes. Break students up into 7 groups. Give students as much time as you feel necessary to interact with the materials and record observations in graphic organizer.
Prior to or after inquiry (based on your preference) have students read article or watch video on physical vs. chemical changes.
Students can then compare and contrast using the venn-diagram to model their understanding.
Materials you will need for each station:
Graphic organizer for each student (on next page)
Print stations 1-7 (laminate to make durable)
*Balloons & push-pins
*Baking Soda, vinegar, cups, spoons
*Video of paper burning
*Steel Wool, Water, Bowl
(place in water week prior to lab so rust is formed)
