This lab is designed to enhance understanding of potential and kinetic energy, as well as the scientific method, through the application of those concepts by building and testing a pendulum. Students will establish a baseline, choose an independent variable, propose a hypothesis, test the effect of altering the pendulum, then measure, graph, and analyze the results. Further, they will compare their results to other groups to predict trends. Also, they will critique their method for testing and measuring results regarding flaws in the design. As an extension, they might calculate speed and acceleration.
