Time: 1.5 hrs
Topic: Resonance in a closed pipe
Materials: large pipes, smaller pipes, tuning forks, meter sticks
I use a 3ft section of 2" pvc and a 3ft section of 1.5" pvc as the pipes. You can buy this at Lowes / Home Depot, have it cut there and buy PVC glue and caps to cap one side. Whole setup for 9 sets cost me around $50.
Lesson: The powerpoint explains how the lab works and walks the students through some example calculations. MAKE SURE you watch the ppt in slideshow mode so the animations and transitions work. The students follow along with their Cornell style notes and then do the lab.
This is a great lab and the kids really enjoy getting to figure out what resonance is!
