Teaching Physics in the Junior Classroom can be successfully accomplished in meaningful and authentic ways. The topic of Friction can be addressed using the students own playground slide equipment. Authentic learning within the context of the students own experiences during play can be used to as the basis of teaching appropriate techniques associated with investigative scientific method at this early stage.
This lesson sequence, presented in the form of a teaching framework, addresses scientific enquiry, data collection, presentation and discussion in the Junior classroom. It incorporates written and oral literacy, as well as mathematical data collection and sequencing.
