The "Pi Shop Activity" focuses on standard 7.G.4 (area and circumference of a circle) while reviewing standards 7.EE.4 (using variables to represent unknown quantities) and 7.RP.3 (percent problems).
This activity is self-directed and encourages independent thinking and problem-solving skills. It starts by asking students to create 3 different types of pies. They are then asked to assign prices to the pies, find area/circumference/radius of the pies, create equations based on customer orders, and calculate sales tax for their pies. This activity took my students between 50-60 minutes to complete. We completed this activity on Pi Day. When they had completed their work, I gave them a small treat to enjoy as they decorated their menus:)
