This duo of activities is the perfect way to celebrate Pi Day (or just review circle basics, when needed). What's included?Circle Investigation - Deriving Pi,Price $4.25Original Price $5.50Save $1.25
This investigation is perfect for helping students to understand what pi represents and why it's equal to 3.14. After discovering pi, students move on to derive the formulas for both the circumference and area of a circle. This activity is very hands on (much like a science lab) and really makes students think and generalize their answers! It's also perfect for a Pi Day activity!
Even if your students already know the formulas for circumference and area, it's totally worth doing this activity because many students don't actually know where those formulas came from...they've just been using memorized formulas for years!
In order to complete this activity you will need:
- yard stick / meter stick / measuring tape (something to measure with that's longer than a traditional ruler).
- (optional) tape
