Create a few Pi Day smiles as students write linear equations given line characteristics. Pi Day themed answer message spices up regular practice and makes grading a snap!
The Pi Day Twist:
Students write 15 linear equations in slope-intercept form (out of 26 problems) before receiving the Pi Day Card
. Students use answers to decode the hidden message. Since the Pi Day Card is addressed “To My Wonderful Teacher,” students are essentially sending you, the teacher, the card when they turn in their work. “Oh what thoughtful students I have!
” 7 Pi Day Card messages are corny, snarky, or simply something a student would actually say. The variety of cards discourages cheating.
Write linear equations in slope-intercept form: Find four versions of this practice each with 26 problems. Choose the level that best meets your students’ needs or easily differentiate by using multiple levels simultaneously. The hardest version has students write linear equations in slope-intercept form given two points. The easiest level gives students both the slope and y-intercept.
