The Pi Chain Challenge is a novel and competitive way to explore what an irrational number looks like. This challenge would be the perfect addition to any Pi Day activities you may already do in your classroom. This activity can easily be adapted across grades and ability levels.
Students represent the frequencies of the digits of pi using various graphs, then utilize the graphs to accurately collect supplies to build the longest pi chain. Detailed teacher notes are included, as well as the print resources you need.
For a personal touch, give every student this HAPPY PI DAY greeting card
