What better way to celebrate Pi Day then to have a hands on activity that keeps the students motivated because they get to EAT! Students will get to pick whichever types of cookies they would like from the ones provided. (I typically like to bake mini pies but just ran out of time this year, so had to settle for this). They will then measure the diameter of each cookie, record it. Using a string measure the circumference of the cookies, record it. Then calculate the ratio of the circumference/diameter. Students will begin to notice how these ratio calculations are close to 3.14. All students will write a reflection based on their findings.
