Description

March 14th (3/14) is the perfect day to explore the Greek number, Pi. Why? Because the number Pi is approximately 3.14. It’s a great time to introduce the concepts of circumference and diameter in a relevant, fun way.

With this FREE lesson, begin by telling students they will be having a Pi Day! Of course, they'll think they're getting cherry, apple or lemon meringue pie but, no, they will be learning about the Greek number, Pi through exploration and discovery.

Students will find 10 items to measure in scavenger hunt style. They’ll record the circumference and diameter, then use a calculator the divide to find the number, 3.14, Pi.

The activity includes a PDF recording worksheet and vocabulary sheet. Print these back to back, get out your measuring tapes, and rulers and have a fun day exploring and discovering Pi.

When the lesson is culminated, bring out some real pie to eat to celebrate and Pi day in style.

If you enjoyed this free Pi day activity, please take a moment to rate and comment. Thanks so much!
