This is a project I use every year in my classes, and it is always a hit. The project is done entirely outside of class.
Students must complete 2 of the 6 projects listed on the document included. Both projects are worth 50 points, making the project worth 100 points. I typically make this a quiz grade.
The six projects include (more detailed descriptions are included in the document):
Advertise Pi-make a poster advertising Pi Day
Price Pi-Use Geometry to compare two different area pizza places to see which is the better deal
Bake Pi-Bake a pie for class and include a recipe with regular units and one with pi units
Play Pi-Make a game about pi
Recite Pi-Recite digits of pi, after 3.14
Create Pi-Come up with your own project, but get approval first!
One of the class favorites is Recite Pi. The student that recites the most digits gets to pie me in the face. This is a fun project and is sure to get your students excited about Pi Day!
