Product Description
I created this "center" for my students to practice key reading skills with non-fiction texts. These are much more engaging than worksheets! I wrote and leveled 6 different short passages and 6 questions for each passage. The questions vary by passage, but common types of questions are found in all, such as:
*identifying main idea
*vocabulary
*cause and effect
*determining importance

I tried to have the same types of question for each passage so that I could see the student attempt the same skill with different passages to gauge how strong they are in that skill.

What's included:
*6 different, engaging non-fiction passage cards
*6 question for each passage = 36 total question cards
*6 pockets to hold questions or alternative ideas on how to maintain all game pieces
*Recording sheet

I put the cards inside a large manilla envelope and tape the cover onto the front so students have directions and so they know how many pieces should be returned.

How to use:
To make it more engaging, I have students pick a passage. Then, they take the questions out of the pockets and flip them upside down. When they are done reading, they flip one question over at a time to reveal a question. If you laminate the cards, students can use light (like green or yellow) dry-erase markers to "highlight" details from the text to help support their answer. They then write their ideas on the recording page (matching the number on the card to the number on the recording page).

*I used a couple different analyzers to help make sure these text fit between 3rd-5th grade reading levels.

If you want to challenge your students with fiction texts, I have a Pick 6 Game for that as well!
