Students pick an addition or subtraction flash card . They write the problem. Then they draw it. I am going to have them draw dots using 2 colors. Then they write the answer. The paper can also be used to solve word problems. They can write the equation they will use to solve, then draw a picture and then write the equation with the answer.

Represent addition and subtraction with objects, fingers, mental images, drawings, sounds (e.g., claps), acting out situations, verbal explanations, expressions, or equations.
Count to answer “how many?” questions about as many as 20 things arranged in a line, a rectangular array, or a circle, or as many as 10 things in a scattered configuration; given a number from 1-20, count out that many objects.
