This lesson allows students to, in an organized manner, flip through articles on various topics that have been pre-selected by the teacher. (For this lesson, I choose relevant nonfiction controversial issue articles.). The lesson guides students through a skimming, scanning, and topic selection process. Students will end the lesson by thinking critically about which topic is the best for them (based on various measures). This lesson is excellent as a start to an argument or other nonfiction writing unit.
