I'm so happy to be able to provide you with this valuable poetry resource for your budding authors! There are so many possibilities with these poetry task cards, you'll have many options for their use. They include both specific types of poetry and types of figurative language, which is a major part of poetry.
Here's how Pick a Poem Task Cards work:
~There are 6 sets of task cards; each set has 28 cards included if you'd like each student to have a card. This enables you to use them for enrichment, scoot games, centers, you name it!
~The poems and skills included are: metaphors, similes, alliteration (tongue twisters), acrostic poems, shape poems, and haiku poems. You could begin with the skill cards to prepare students for the actual poem writing task card activities.
~Each card gives your students two options for writing, in the selected set of task cards. For example, one shape task card asks students to write a shape poem in the form of a cloud OR a rainbow. So they're being given a choice which allows them to "own" the assignment and ensures buy in to the project. They'll be more engaged with having the choice of their topic. Each set of task cards offers them two choices for writing. You CAN have them do both or choose the one you'd like them to write about as well. All pages in this resource are in black and white for easy printing.
~I've included recording sheets for each set of cards. On each sheet, there is a reminder what that form of poetry is or a definition of the type of figurative language.
This will be a SUPER fun activity for your high-flyers looking for a challenge, or your beginning writers that need help choosing a topic. They're so easy to differentiate! Please see the preview for an example.
The cards were made to fit into commonly found photo boxes in the 4 x 6 size. I purchased mine at Michaels Arts and Crafts Store online. I've also included cover cards to place in the boxes.
