This is a print, laminate, cut, and go version of a game that I play with my students using real objects. The kids love it and it’s the perfect way to get in some basic math facts practice (adding and subtracting numbers 1-12) while also getting out some of their energy. I find games like this especially helpful for my students that are struggling with math and my lowest proficiency ELLs. The mixture of the two provides a perfect group: the struggling students get practice with their facts and some speedier calculation competition while my ELLs get a chance to shine as the superior mathematicians while simultaneously getting fluency practice with English numbers. This is especially good for ELLs because while they can do the math, they need practice quickly saying and comprehending numbers used out of sequence and this game provides them with that opportunity.
