This picture book guide was designed to help teachers prepare their students for Common Core extended response questions. It was also designed to help teachers make digital connections to literature. This guide focuses on inference.
The guide opens with a digital connection to an interactive website that allows students to watch a video of Duke Ellington playing at the Cotton Club to build interest in the story.
Five guiding questions are provided that can be the basis for whole class discussion or individual student essay response.
An extension idea is provided in the form of a website that allows students to listen to interview and music audio recordings.
The guide closes with the five guiding questions on three printable pages with plenty of room for written responses. An answer key is also provided.
