This picture book guide was designed to help teachers prepare their students for Common Core extended response questions. It was also designed to help teachers make digital connections to literature. This guide focuses on predicting, summarizing, and inferencing.
The guide opens with three discussion questions to build story interest. Five guiding questions are provided that can be the basis for whole class discussion or individual student essay response. Three of the questions require students to give evidence and examples from the story as is required in many Common Core test questions. An extension idea is provided in the form of links to three interactives that encourage students to tinker and create their own contraptions. The guide closes with the five guiding questions on three printable pages with plenty of room for written responses. An answer key is also provided.
