This picture book guide was designed to help teachers prepare their students for Common Core extended response questions. It was also designed to help teachers make digital connections to literature. This guide focuses on character traits and inference.
The guide opens with a link to an online graphic organizer that can be used with the whole class to brainstorm jobs they could do and things that could go wrong on those jobs.
Five guiding questions are provided that can be the basis for whole class discussion or individual student essay response.
An extension idea is provided in the form of a link to a video students can watch to learn where the idea for the story came from. Another link is provided that challenges students to try and navigate their way through an online hedge maze.
The guide closes with the five guiding questions on three printable pages with plenty of room for written responses. An answer key is also provided.
