Hey, y'all! Looking for a way to implement student-driven, self-selected vocabulary in your classroom? Maybe you're looking to add a word study component to your students' independent reading, or you might just need a way to differentiate your vocabulary instruction while you work through a whole class text.
In this assignment, students go beyond the standard "word and definition vocab. lists" to select words that are unfamiliar to them and create an illustrated dictionary that forces them to take a more in-depth look at the meaning of each word. You can use these materials for an extended project or to help you facilitate a quick dive into the language of a shorter text.
Here's what's included!
-a sample assignment sheet (just fill in the number of words you want your students to investigate)
-a sample scoring guide included in the assignment sheet
-a printable template for students to create their dictionaries (Save a little paper! Print front and back and you can fit four entries per page.)
A note about printing PDF files:
-if you have trouble with the sizing of pdf files, select the "shrink oversized pages" option on your print menu.
