This product is intended to be used as an editing sheet to help students use more descriptive language.
For the picture painting words activity, students will either choose nouns from their own writing or class selected nouns. They will then fill in the paint circles with words that describe their noun. Let students know that the words need to paint a picture to their reader. That they should be able to close their eyes and “paint a picture” based on what they read.
For the power flower activity, students will choose basic words from either their own writing or from class selected writing and put the word in the center of the flower. They will then write synonyms on the petals. Once they have a variety of choices, they will choose a more descriptive word to replace their original choice.
I have included two copies of this activity, one can be a standalone activity with a place to write new sentences if students do not have their own writing piece. The other is an organizer that students can use to edit their writing.
