Picture or Sound Sort Cards to sort for initial sounds or the alphabet!
Picture sort cards can be used with individual students or small groups. The adult (teacher, paraprofessional, parent helper) tells the students that they will be sorting sounds according to their beginning sound. Initially use two categories, increasing as the students are successful. The adult then shows a few cards that fit the two categories as examples while over emphasizing the initial sound. Use a white board or a T-chart for sorting. I like using a T-chart because we use the same chart later on for writing words into the categories (analogy chart).
There are, however, endless possibilities for using these cards to sort with! T
here are 3 different printing options for these cards, depending on how your printer prints and what you are using them for! The product includes the picture cards and a word label for the back of the card (if you choose to print it there).
