Practical resources for Speech and Language Therapy
Like me, you are a busy SLT always on the lookout for new ways to keep your therapy effective and engaging. You are already using Apps with your clients but you know they need to be used in support of your therapy goals. You’ve seen Apps work as wonderful motivators for your clients but you’re concerned that they can limit communication with others.
Sound familiar? We have created the “Pictures for Sentences” series for SLTs just like you.
Each resource in the series provides picture vocabulary to support your clients in increasing their sentence length. The resources are based around some of my favourite Apps from Toca Boca (http://tocaboca.com).
Creating the resource is straightforward. With a clipboard, some Velcro and a sentence board you can make a board like those used in the Picture Exchange Communication System. Using the resource your client can construct a sentence to make a request or comment about the App they are using. This activity offers choices and support for kids to produce sentences, often longer than they would usually produce spontaneously.
The resource can be used in different ways, allowing you to vary complexity levels over time and to keep using it without boring your client.
At Speech Concepts we are always working to create new resources and materials. Be sure to check out our store to find other tools to use and Like us on Facebook to stay in touch and hear about our new releases.
