PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Art is...Bonnard is 4 printable pages for your students.
Bonnard was a Post-Impressionist painter and printmaker. He was the founder of the group, "The Nabis." His art work is characterized by very unique colors and values, and sometimes complex arrangements.

There is one Oil Pastel Technique worksheet where students can practice different techniques. This works best if printed on white construction paper. Students will need oil pastels, water, brush, paper towels and possible tools as listed on the worksheet.
4 Techniques
Scumbling is dropping and dragging the oil pastel on the page.
Drawing is simply creating a design.
Pointillism is using dots to color.
Crosshatching is chicken scratch, x's or diagonals.
Every thing else is pretty self-explanatory. If you have questions about the worksheet please contact me with your concerns.

The 3 Bonnard pages are:
1. Still Life.
Open-ended: allow students to draw their emotions and reactions to his art work.
Directed: have students sketch the still life first. Or, they can choose just one of the vases of flowers. After sketching they are to color with oil pastels, using techniques they learned on the Techniques Worksheet.

2. The Bay. A landscape page.
Open -ended: allow students to draw their emotions and reactions to his art work.
Directed: Students are to sketch first, then fill in with oil pastels. Emphasize blending techniques as seen in his sky.

2. Bonnard's cats
Bonnard didn't paint on location but he would sketch and take his sketches home to paint in his studio.
Open-ended: allow students to draw their emotions and reactions to his art work.
Directed: Students will sketch first, then fill in the oil pastels. Emphasize the values in "White Cat."

Note: Use of any copyrighted images, artists' photos or artwork is for students enhancement of their Art History and appreciation of Art, in accordance with Fair Use in Education.

If you have any questions, please contact me. Open Ended, is usually a student directed process, where they can draw their feelings, emotions, reactions to the art work in the blanks provided. They can choose to copy the designs, outlines the shapes/forms, or even just draw one aspect. Open ended is not assessed and there is no right or wrong. Just encourage active participation in some form. And, If you are unfamiliar with Open-Ended art activities, please download my free "Open-Ended Art is..."

Note: I have revised the file to include BOTH jpg and pdf files.
