Perfect for Black History Month, this literature guide for the picture book Pies From Nowhere introduces students to Georgia Gilmore, a hidden figure of the Civil Rights Movement. The story focuses on how Georgia helped sustain the Montgomery Bus Boycott by selling pies and cakes with the Club From Nowhere, and her relationship with Martin Luther King Jr. These activities are great for Guided Reading, independent or small group work, reading response, or in a center. Use it with Gr. 2-4 and homeschool.
