This art lesson is a must for the littles in grades Kindergarten through 3rd grade. This lesson introduces students to the life and artwork of the famous Dutch artist, Piet Mondrian. Included in this bundle is a detailed art lesson plan, powerpoint, video, assessment with an answer recording sheet, and 3-word searches.
The art lesson plan is broken down into 3 days and includes detailed prep notes and procedures, national standards, objectives, visual steps, and a rubric. The powerpoint presentation gives students insight into how and why his artwork changed and defines abstract art.
The powerpoint also has a music clip of early jazz music so students can hear the same music that influenced Mondrian. The video is broken down into 2 segments: Day 1 - printing lines and Day 2: painting.
The assessment is in a powerpoint format consisting of 20 questions with an A or B answering format. Students simply circle the correct answer on the answer sheet. The last slide allows you to correct the assessment as a whole group or later. This assessment has been used with 2nd and 3rd-grade students. This art unit has been used as a preassessment and a post-assessment to show student growth as part of the Student Learning Goal and has proven to be an effective way to collect data/ evidence for administrators who are focused on numbers and percentages.
The 3-word searches have 3 difficulty levels and can be used as an extension for those students who complete their art project early.
This art lesson and assessment has been tested on all 4-grade levels with great success. It also makes a colorful display for students, parents, and staff to enjoy.
