Pigeon: Pigeon by Mo Willems
The activities in this pack are designed to correspond with the reading of ANY Pigeon book by Mo Willems.

The pack can be used as a whole class activity or during small group guided reading time. Just copy a pack for each student. You may choose to use pages that best fit your students’ learning abilities.

ACTIVITIES TO GO WITH PIGEON BOOKS BY MO WILLEMS:
-unit cover page
-elements of the story {After reading the story, students will recall story elements such as: title, author, characters, setting}
-story map {Students will retell the story by writing or drawing what happens in the beginning, middle, and end of the story.}
-characters in the story
-character analysis
-can-have-are graphic organizer {Students will illustrate the main characters in the story on the photograph template. They will identify Pigeon’s character traits and will fill in a graphic organizer all about pigeons.}
-text-to-self connections {These pages are meant to foster text-to-self connections. Have a discussion with your students or have students discuss amongst themselves, answering the following types of questions -Have you ever wanted something you couldn’t have? Did you ever get it eventually? Do you think it helps to beg or whine? Why or why not? Then have students complete the work pages.}
-fiction and non-fiction story elements {This page is meant to have students discern what in the story could be real and what is likely make-believe.}
-evidence from the text {Students will look to the text to answer the comprehension questions.}
-reading notes {The Story Notes page is a perfect wrap-up to the Pigeon unit. Students will reflect on various elements of the story and will share their personal reflections.}
-writing activity {Students will make create their OWN 6-page pigeon stories based on the template of the Pigeon book series. Simply have students fill in the pages with their ideas, and add illustrations as desired.}
