This Pilgrim Simulation provides a fun, unique way for students to learn about pilgrims. This 84-page packet takes you and your students through an entire simulation in which they can truly feel like a pilgrim. They will receive an identity of one of the REAL pilgrims from the Mayflower, including names and details of their life. They will work with other pilgrims in their neighborhood to earn points through having town meetings and making decisions together, writing journal entries, and working effectively with their neighborhood members. They will receive 1600's Circumstances, which give students a realistic view of what daily life was like for pilgrims, as some circumstances help them earn points, and some unfortunate events will lead to point deductions. Students then use their neighborhood points to purchase buildings for their neighborhood, including homes, a church, a storehouse, and fields. They hang the buildings on their large map (comprised of four pages of paper, each one a quarter of the map). There are rubrics for grading, journal sheets for student assignments, a teacher's guidebook, student's booklet, neighborhood leader's book, a pre-test and post-test, and posters to assist with teaching about pilgrim life and events. Your students will be excited to learn about pilgrims and colonial life with this pilgrim simulation that takes approximately 9 hours and is recommended to be split up over the course of 3 days. It would also work in 2 days with enough preparation.
