Many students think of pilgrims only during Thanksgiving! Introduce current religious pilgrimage sites and your students will understand that pilgrims are still relevant today.
Use these notes pages in a variety of ways. Your students can independently research these pilgrimage sites, or you can discuss them as a whole group and take notes.
I use these notes with my students as we read The Canterbury Tales, but this could be a great activity in a history class, as well!
4 major world religions (Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism) are the focus of this activity and students are required to answer the the 5 Ws:
Who - Who visits this site?
What - What is the name of the site?
When - When did the location become an important site? OR When do pilgrims travel to this site?
Where - Where is the site located?
Why - Why is this an important site to pilgrims?
After students have completed the notes, they can color the pictures or add pictures of their own, such as symbols that represent each religion.
