This passage was written with 4th graders in mind, but it can be used with more advanced third graders or weaker fifth grade readers. Please use your best judgement.

IMPORTANT---- I offer this SAME passage in two different formats. This particular passage is formatted for interactive notebooks. It is the exact same passage and questions just formatted differently from the full page version.

If you would like to purchase the one page passage with 6 text-based questions that go along with the passage, click HERE. You can then read the description to see which format works best for you.

This pack includes a short close reading passage that discusses why Pilgrims traveled on the Mayflower, what life was like, and how Squanto helped, and celebrating the harvest with a meal, which was the first Thanksgiving. The passage is a half sheet, so it will work perfectly to glue into an interactive reading notebook or social studies notebook. Once glued into the interactive notebook, students can write their thinking out to the side of the passage.

In addition to the poem, there are three flippable activities (all printed on one sheet) for their notebook. One is on the definition of persecution, one focuses on whether they think they would make the same trip knowing what it was like, and the other focuses on 4 comprehension questions related to the passage.

In addition to doing this activity as a whole group reading lesson, you could also have students do it during a literacy center. Feel free to use it in your classroom however you would like.

**PLEASE... if you see any typos, send me a message before you rate the product. I can usually have corrections made very quickly. Thank you ahead of time.
