This game is great for literacy or Daily 5 centers and an absolute favorite of my students.
What to Do:
1.) Cut out cards and easily differentiate by using words that are appropriate for your students. All Dolch words are included alphabetically by level. (Blank cards are also included so you can add specific words for your students)
2.) Put cards in a container so that students may pick out one card at a time without looking (a treasure box, shoe box, baby wipe container, oatmeal container or tissue box can all work well).
1.) Determine how long you would like a game to last (5-25 minutes is suggested depending on the students and context for the game).
2.) Students choose one card at a time and read the word. If they can read the word they keep it. If not it is “up for grabs” and another player can read the word for a steal. If no one can read it the card goes back into the pot. This ends the player’s turn and it passes to the next player.
2.) If a player draws an “ARRRG! card the player puts all of his cards back into the container, and play continues with the next player.
3.) If a player draws a “TAKE ONE” card the player can take a card from another player of her choice.
4.) When the time is up, the player with the most cards wins.
