This literacy pack has everything you need to celebrate Talk Like A Pirate Day or to just enjoy a fun pirate themed unit. I made these activities with my second graders in mind (and aligned them to second grade common core standards), but this may be appropriate for first or third graders, depending on ability level. Included in this packet are the following:

Grammar Activities:
-Collective Nouns Avast- Read the story and fill in the blanks with collective nouns
-Captain's Collective Nouns- Match the plural nouns to their collective partners (cut and paste)
-The Parrot's Plural Nouns- Write the plural noun that goes with the singular noun listed, then use the plural noun in a sentence.
-Follow the Map to the Nouns- Name and label the nouns found on the map, then mark if they are singular or plural.
-Pete and Pablo's Proper Nouns- Correct the Plural noun capitalization errors, then rewrite the proper nouns.
-Jolly Roger's Reflexive Pronouns- Find and circle the reflexive pronouns, then rewrite.
-Rowdy Reflexive Pronouns- Read the sentences and fill in the blanks with the appropriate reflexive pronouns.
-Plunderin' Past Tense Verbs- Find and color the past tense verbs. Then, use the words in sentences.
-Peg Leg's Past Tense Verbs- Write the past tense verbs then find them in the word search. Try to find the additional hidden past tense verbs.
-The Curse of the Compound Words- Cut, match, and paste compound words together, then write the new word.
-Design and Describe Your Own Pirate- Use adjectives, adverbs, and verbs to create a pirate.
-All About My Pirate- Using the parts of speech used above, write a descriptive story about your pirate.
-A Piratey Picture- Draw and describe a pirate themed picture.

-Color by Word- Long A Words
-Color by Word- Long E and I Words
-Color by Word- Long O and U Words

Reading (Graphic Organizers to be Used with ANY Book You Are Using):
-Making Predictions Before Reading
-Answering and Answering Questions (2 Options)
-Central Message
-Story Map (2 Options)
-Character Traits (2 Options- Male or Female Character)

Writing:
-Shiver Me Sentences (2 Pages)- Expand the sentences using descriptive language.
-Opinion Writing Activity- Brainstorming (2 pages), Prewriting, Editing Checklist, Writing Page- Fully Lined, Writing Page- Half Picture
*I also included duplicates of the unit with blank titles and topic areas to be used with any topic.
-Narrative Writing Activity: Brainstorming, Planning, First Draft Page, Editing Checklist, Writing Page- Half Picture, Writing Page- Fully Lined, Two Options for Crafts to Publish (One Male, One Female)

-Pirate Journal- Half Pages with a Cover and 13 Prompts
