In Chapter 3, you will learn about the polar coordinate system. Air traffic controllers and submarine captains use this system. Play Buried Treasure games in the Polar Coordinate Plane and then solve polar coordinate grid puzzles. In the last section you will use polar coordinates and geometry to follow clues to buried pirate treasure.
The 2 page free sample consists of the puzzle and an answer key.
One of the goals in Pirate Math is to teach graphing. There are games teaching graphing in the coordinate plane (Chapter 2), using polar coordinates (Chapter 3), on a spherical surface (Chapter 4), and in three dimensions (Chapter 5). Pirate Math also contains a collection of puzzles that help develop reasoning and problem solving, which is at the heart of all mathematics.
In Pirate Math I have combined the fun and challenge of polyominoes with the excitement and adventure of pirate maps and treasure hunts. With treasure map in hand, you will follow clues and solve puzzles, uncovering secret passages and hidden caves. Ah, what glorious adventures await you in your quest for pirate treasure!
