In Chapter 4, you will learn about using coordinates on a globe (parallels, meridian, prime meridian, international date line, and time zones). You will use longitude and latitude lines to help you locate positions on the earth and then play Buried Treasure games using these skills. The chapter finishes with you solving puzzles on spherical surfaces and locating an actual sunken ship off the Florida Keys. This chapter can also be used to review geography.

The 2 page free sample consists of the puzzle and an answer key.

One of the goals in Pirate Math is to teach graphing. There are games teaching graphing in the coordinate plane (Chapter 2), using polar coordinates (Chapter 3), on a spherical surface (Chapter 4), and in three dimensions (Chapter 5). Pirate Math also contains a collection of puzzles that help develop reasoning and problem solving, which is at the heart of all mathematics.

In Pirate Math I have combined the fun and challenge of polyominoes with the excitement and adventure of pirate maps and treasure hunts. With treasure map in hand, you will follow clues and solve puzzles, uncovering secret passages and hidden caves. Ah, what glorious adventures await you in your quest for pirate treasure!
