Product Description
'Aaaargh' you searching for a fun new way for your students to practice identifying initial sounds?
Getting ready to celebrate 'Talk Like A Pirate Day' or embark on a pirate theme journey of learning?
Want a center that is little to no prep but has your little pirates up and about?
Need a center that can be used several ways and can be differentiated?

This pirate themed 'read the room' activity will engage your independent learners and they will have no idea they are practicing identifying initial sounds in words!

They 'arrrrgh' sure to LOVE this center!

The center can also be used as a 'stationary' center rather than count the room. Place cards in baskets, buckets or even a 'treasure chest' rather than tape around the room!

Use it for early finishers basket too!

This Pack Includes:
*Directions/Suggestions for use
*12 Numbered Picture Cards with a ‘Pirate’ Theme
*Letter Cards
*15 word & picture cards
*4 sentence building cards (I, see, the & . )
*2 Recording Sheets PLUS Answer Key

Supports and Aligns with Common Core Learning Standards too!

Directions/Suggestions For Use:
Print and laminate cards. Tape cards around the room for a ‘read the room’ activity or they can be placed in a basket/bucket/’treasure chest’ on a table for a stationery center activity.

Students look at the picture, say the name of the object in the treasure chest, find the number on the card/recording sheet and write the letter that matches the initial sound.

Choose the recording sheet that best matches the skill level of your students- numbers already provided or ‘fill in the number’ form too!

Other Ideas:
Use for centers, center extension activities and/or early finisher basket:
*Have students match picture cards to letter cards

*Place a set of these cards in a basket/bag/treasure chest.
Students can put them in ABC order.

*Partner match up- give ½ your students picture cards and the other ½ letter cards. They have to move about the room to find their ‘match’ partner

*Perfect game for 'Talk Like A Pirate Day' on September 19th too!

*Find a 'matching' Math Center- Pirate Theme Count the Room 1-10!
