This product gives children lots of fun practice of converting between metric units of measurement, all within a piratical theme. The first activity is a roll and convert board. Children roll the dice to see which measure they convert. This can be played competitively with a partner. An answer grid is included.
The second activity is an open-ended task. Children have a 10kg weight limit before boarding the pirate ship. What are they going to take with them? A scroll full of items with their corresponding weight is given to help with this task. The weight of each item is given in grams.
There are 21 word problem cards all involving the conversion from one unit to another. There is a mixture of all four operations and some problems involving fractions to be solved. These problems have been produced on attractively illustrated cards for use in maths centers, guided reading groups and in a game, Walk the Plank, produced at the end of the product. The word problems have also been typed up into a worksheet so they can be used with the whole class or given for homework. An answer grid is included.
