Eleven different Pirate's Path to the Treasure matching activities that review atoms, elements, and the periodic table are included in this bundle!
Students will find the Pirate's Path to the Treasure by completing the each matching activity. The first card will say “Start” and have the first question. Find the answer to the first question and place it above the start card. The card that has the first answer will also have the second question. Continue to find the matches until you have created the Pirate's Path to the Treasure. The last card will have the last answer and will also say “Ahoy Matey”.
The time required to finish each of the 12 tasks included will depend on the level of your students. Be sure to check the list of concepts covered in this activity to make sure it is a good fit for your students.
This is a differentiated activity that consists of 12 task cards.
Task #’s 1, 2, 4,5, 7, and 8 require students to complete a 9 card matching activity that reviews 8 vocabulary words each. Each of these tasks are a great option for students who may get overwhelmed with too many vocabulary cards at one time. It is also a good option to use if you do not have as much time.
Task numbers 3,6, and 9 require students to complete an 18 card matching activity. Task number 3 is mostly a review of vocabulary and concepts from task numbers 1 and 2. Task number 6 is mostly a review of vocabulary and concepts from tasks 5 and 6. Task 9 is mostly a review vocabulary and concepts from tasks 7 and 8. The 18 card matching activities are easier for students who have already completed the previous two 9 card matching activities. The 18 card matching activities are great options for students who love a challenge. You may choose to let some or all of your students start with this task.
Tasks 10 and 11 require students to complete a 27 card matching activity each. Tasks 10 and 11 are a review of vocabulary and concepts from tasks 1-9. Task number 12 is a creative writing prompt that I have added in as a bonus for you. Directions for each task are listed on the task cards (slide 6-7). Choose the tasks that best suit the needs of your students.
Full color versions of each matching activity are provided in two different sizes.
Use these activities with individuals, pairs, or groups of students. An answer sheet is provided.
This is an "EASY PREP" activity that will give your students a lot of practice with the vocabulary and concepts that they have learned in your class.
All you need to do is print, laminate, and cut the cards. The cards are not in order on the sheets so you could require the students to cut out their own cards. Give each student or group of students a copy of the answer sheet. Tasks 1-3 can be done without the answer sheet if you would like to visually check their work instead.
The following topics are reviewed with this activity: Atoms, elements, periodic table, protons, neutrons, electrons, isotopes, ions, charges, atomic number, mass number, average atomic mass, periods, groups, gases, metals, nonmetals, halogens, alkali metals, atomic mass units, noble gases, valence electrons, molecules, chemical bonds, energy levels, chemical formulas, transition metals, Lewis Dot diagrams, oxidation numbers, coefficient, and subscripts.
