Here are 6 POETRY MYSTERY PICTURES that will help your students become POETRY PIRATES!
Each mystery picture has an accompanying worksheet with 20 sentences that focuses on a variety of poetry skills. Students must read each sentence and determine the type of language or device being used. There are color keys and simple definitions of each term at the top of each worksheet. The number at the end of each sentence tells the students how many boxes to color so they can find them all.
These work great in stations or as a whole class activity. These are also awesome activities for a substitute because it doesn't require any prep, takes a while to complete, and provides meaningful practice. My students love working on these throughout the week and can't wait to discover the hidden picture.
This set includes:
Mystery Picture 1: Literal & Nonliteral
Mystery Picture 2: Sound Devices- Rhyme, Alliteration, & Onomatopoeia
Mystery Picture 3: Figurative Language- Similes, Metaphors, & Personification
Mystery Picture 4: Imagery
Mystery Picture 5: Sound Devices & Figurative Language
Mystery Picture 6: More Sound Devices & Figurative Language- Hyperbole & Idioms (Includes an additional worksheet option with words/phrases underlined to help students focus on what to identify.)
