A visual and hands on approach to teaching about quarters of amounts or numbers.
1. Children cut out the pizza toppings (Careful not to lose them! We kept ours separate with a piece of folded scrap paper).
2. Make sure the toppings are distributed fairly on the pizza so each customer gets an even amount of topping on their slice.
"How many mushrooms on each slice?"
"So, what is a quarter of 8?"
3. When you're satisfied they've understood the task get them to spread the pizza sauce (with a bit of glue added) to their base.
4. Stick the toppings on evenly.
Includes a simple worksheet to complete after the activity.
