Practice with the 120s chart has become one of my students' favorite activities! We practice every day with our calendar/opening activities, but I like to extend this to some independent practice!
These "Hide and Seek" activities are great for this! Kid friendly ciip art "hide" numbers which must be discovered. Students record these numbers in order from least to greatest! Students have to use a variety of strategies to discover the hidden number! Some students use the "patterns" of the 120s Chart while others may use 10 more, 10 less, one more, or one less! Do I care? Not at all! I want my students to be engaged in meaningful practice while using any and all of these strategies!
I love providing fun, engaging, independent practice for my students! I like providing lots of practice with those concepts and skills that will help them FOR.EVER! I make sure I introduce and teach my students how to "play" these games in groups before I present them as independent activities!
