Place Value Activities and Games
Table of Contents:
1.I can represent 3-digit numbers: Students will represent a 3-digit number using base-ten blocks, standard form, and expanded form. I allow my students to roll 3 dice to make their 3-digit number.
2.Expanded Form: Students will write 3-digit numbers in expanded form that are given in standard form.
3.Build a number: Student will roll 3 dice to create a 3-digit number. They will represent the number using base-ten blocks.
4.Expanded Form Scoot: Cut out the cards and place them in various places around the room. The students will “scoot” around the room and record the numbers in expanded form on their scoot sheet.
5.Go Fish: Students will need to match the expanded form of a number with word form of a number to get a match. There is recording form for student accountability.
6.I Have, Who Has: Numbers are called out in expanded form. The student responds in standard form. This game is a great way to work on listening skills.
7.Read & Write Numbers Scoot: Cut out the cards and place them in various places around the room. The students will “scoot” around the room and record the numbers in standard form on their scoot sheet. The numbers on the cards are written in word form.
8.Roll a bigger number, Roll a smaller number: Students will need dice and play in partners. Students will practice writing 3-digit numbers as well as comparing 3-digit numbers.
9.Base Ten Pictures: Have your students create a picture using base-ten blocks.
