This file contains 9 pages that can be used as Exit Tickets (check for understanding), Classwork, and an Assessment for place value strategies solving addition and subtraction problems up to 100. There is NO REGROUPING in any of these problems.
The Exit Tickets have between 2-6 problems each to check for understanding of your guided instruction. There are Exit Tickets for using the place value strategy, drawing Base 10 blocks to solve problems, properties of operations (commutative only) and multiple select type questions for each just mentioned.
Choose 2 equations that are NOT correct.
7 Tens 6 Ones – 4 Tens 2 Ones = 34
15 + 29 = 29 + 15
87 + 21 = 6 Tens 8 Ones
6 Tens 2 Ones + 1 Ten 5 Ones = 8 Tens 7 Ones
49 + 33 = 33 + 49
The Classwork and the Assessment are basically identical with different numbers in the equations.
The first 4 problems on the classwork/assessment require students to use the place value strategy to find a solution.
For example, 42 + 25 =
4 tens + 2 tens = 6 tens
2 ones + 5 ones = 7 ones
6 tens + 7 ones = 67
The next 3 problems require students to draw Base 10 blocks as a strategy to find a solution.
The second page of the classwork/assessment includes 4 double digit addition/subtraction problems that can be solved using any strategy. It also includes 4 missing addend problems using the commutative property of operations.
For example, 23 + ____ = 19 + 23
Finally, there is a multiple select type problem that provides 6 choices using Base 10 blocks, place value strategy and commutative property. The students must determine which 2 solutions are incorrect. The next problem requires the students to choose 1 of the incorrect choices and correct it.
The last problem is a word problem and students must demonstrate the relationship between addition/subtraction by checking the work in the word problem using subtraction and explain what needs to be done to check an addition problem.
