Place value battleship game – children play in pairs,
aiming to correctly guess the 7-digit number written
down by their partner. Children must each choose a 7-
digit number and write it down on their whiteboard.
e.g. Child 1 asks whether child 2 has a 4 located in their
thousand position. Child 2 then responds with ‘yes’ or
‘no’ depending on whether the guess was correct. If
the guess is correct, child 1 may circle the ‘4’ in the
thousands position on their tracking sheet. If the guess
is incorrect, child 1 will cross the ‘4’ out in the
thousands position and child 2 should say whether the
target number is more than or less than the number
To differentiate this game, children can choose numbers
of fewer digits.
