Students are expected to understand that the two digits of a two-digit number represent amounts of tens and ones. Using base ten blocks allows students to build this understanding on a concrete level.
For this activity the students will need some base ten blocks or some manipulative that is base ten. They pick a build a number card and use the base ten blocks to build a model of the number. They are provided a recording sheet to record their work.
This activity can also be used whole group. All students will need their own small set of base ten blocks and a place value mat.
Included: work mat, 30 number cards, directions and student recording sheet.
