This resource can be used during whole group lessons, within small groups, in centers, or during write the room or scoot activities. This set of cards is geared towards first grade or the beginning of second grade and directly aligns with both first and second grade common core standards.
This packet includes a set of 20 building cards each with a given number and place to write in how many tens and ones are in each number plus an additional set of 4 blank cards for you to make as many more as you might need. Also included are 2 building mats and a recording sheet for when the cards are used in centers or write the room activities. The complete packet comes in both color and black and white.
I use this packet within my own classroom during whole group activities and centers as well as a quick assessment. It provides students with a fun way to practice building different numbers, manipulating base ten blocks, and understanding the direct connection between the base ten blocks and the tens place or ones place. Probably the most beneficial part of this packet is the extensive directions and bonus questions for extending your students' learning. Use the three pages of challenge questions to allow your students to gain a deeper understanding of place value.
