You better CHECK yourself!!! This fun unit has students writing checks and paying bills! They write checks to certain companies, stores, etc to practice writing numbers in standard, expanded, work and place value blocks form. I have differentiated this unit so students can practice writing a check from a task card with a plain number in standard form or they can be challenged and solve a word problem using addition to find a total (in the tens, hundreds, or thousands place) and then write the check.
Included in this unit:
~Common Core State Standards
~Place Value anchor charts for standard, expanded, word and place value block or picture form
~Teacher notes and lesson plan
~ Checks – 2 options on how to record answers while writing checks
~Differentiated Task Cards- numbers in the tens, hundreds, and thousand place
~20 task cards with numbers in standard form. Students can practice filling out a check using this number.
~10 task cards with a word problem. Students have to add up the total and then write a check with numbers in the tens place.
~10 task cards with a word problem. Students have to add up the total and then write a check with numbers in the hundreds place.
~10 task cards with a word problem. Students have to add up the total and then write a check with numbers in the thousands place.
Your students will get such a kick out of writing checks like us grown-ups do! Have fun with this unit. You could even add in your own stories or word problems to make it more personal.
