Read and write multi-digit whole numbers using base-ten numerals, number names, and expanded form. Compare two multi-digit numbers based on meanings of the digits in each place, using >, =, and < symbols to record the results of comparisons.

CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.4.NBT.A.3

Use place value understanding to round multi-digit whole numbers to any place.

Students will:

  • Identify the place value of a digit up to 5 digits (ten thousands, thousands, hundreds, tens, ones)
  • Use standard form, expanded form and word form
  • Order numbers 
  • Use: > < = symbols to compare different numbers
  • find 1 more and less, 10 more and less, 100 more and less, 1,000 more and less, 10,000 more and less from a variety of different numbers up to 99,999

These resources meet most 3rd or 4th grade curriculum expectations but could also easily be used for revision or an introduction to place value in other grades.

There are many activities in this resource. It is designed to be broken up into a number of different lessons. You could also pick and choose activities to best meet the needs of your students (differentiate).

Assessment:

We give 2 options - multiple choice questions at the end of the slide deck or a Google Form. Questions are very similar for both.

The Google Forms are auto-graded and can be saved to a Google Sheet, for easy future reference.
